1- First of all before you go ahead with the download, back up all your data. This is very important as the update will erase all your data so you need to back up all your data. 

2- Make sure you have downloaded the USB Drivers for HTC.

3- Enable USB Debugging mode of your mobile.

4- Your device should be rooted with Android 7.1.2 Nougat ROM based TWRP recovery.

Steps to Update HTC One (M8) to AICP Android 7.1.2 Nougat Custom ROM:

Step 1: First, you have to download AICP android 7.1.2 Nougat custom ROM and its related Google Apps packages from this link.

Step 2: Now, connect your mobile device with PC and move the Custom firmware and Google Apps packages in your mobile SD card.

Step 3: Move the boot.img file to android-sdk-windows\platform-tools directory on your personal computer. After that, switch off your mobile device for booting and disconnect your USB cable from your personal computer.

Step 4: Now, switch on your device by pressing Power button and volume down button together. It will take your mobile in Fastboot mode. Now, open command prompt by navigating through android-sdk-windows\platform-tools directory.

Step 5: Now, type this command “fastboot flash boot boot.img” and press enter.

Step 6: After that, type this command “fastboot reboot” and click enter.

Step 7: Now, choose BOOTLOADER option and in that BOOTLOADRER menu, choose RECOVERY option. After that, swipe on the “Swipe to Factory Reset” option.

Step 8: Repeat the same method for installation of Google Apps packages in your mobile device.

Step 9: At last, click on “reboot system” button for rebooting.

Now, your device will take at least 4-5 minutes for rebooting after the completion of installation process.
