Since the latest Android 8.0 Oreo is out a month ago and the first security patch(September) for the latest operating system is out recently,  we are assuming that you have already our updated your Google Pixel and Pixel XL to it. This means that even if you have rooted your phone previously, you have lost your rooted status. But you need not worry, below we have listed the detailed procedure on how to root your Google Pixel and Pixel XL on Android 8.0 Oreo. So, let’s get started instead of wasting time.

USB Drivers:

It is an important step for you to download the latest USB drivers on your computer.

Backup:

Since rooting your phone means that it will be wiped clean, so it is important that you make a backup of your data including your pictures, contacts, passwords, apps list etc.

Instructions for rooting Pixel on Android 8.0 Oreo:

Please read all the steps below, before you start implementing the actual process. 

Things to Remember:

1- The method that we have explained below is limited only to Pixel/XL having Android 8.0 Oreo installed on it. Trying this method on other variants of the phone is not a good idea. We are not sure it might even work on them. 
2- The bootloader of your phone should be unlocked.

Complete Instructions:

Step 1- The first step requires you to Download Android SDK. You can easily find that on the Android developer’s website. Install the software and set it up with the USB drivers package and the platform-tools present in the SDK.

Step 2- You should do this beforehand, enable the USB debugging mode on your smartphone.

Step 3- Download Fastboot in accordance with your operating system and then you need to extract that in the SDK platform-tools directory. The exact path is as follows android-sdk-windows\platform-tools. In case there is no directory present there, we suggest that you make one. 

If you haven’t downloaded the SuperSU v2.82-SR3 on your computer, now is the right time.

Step 4- Connect your Pixel to the computer in order to mount its memory. USB cable should the medium for this connection.

Step 5- Copy and paste the SuperSU file to the memory of your SD card. It is important for you to remember that the file should be directly placed in the SD card memory and not in any of the folders. The exact name of the SuperSu file is SR3-SuperSU-v2.82-SR3-20170813133244.zip

Step 6- Switch off your mobile phone.

If you haven’t downloaded TWRP custom recovery for Google Pixel on your PC, you should do it right away. Make sure that you save it in the android-sdk-window\platform-tools directory of your system. If case TWPR recovery does not work, you can try out the CWM recovery.

Step 7- Restart your phone by pressing and hold the power up key along with the volume down key for a few seconds. This will boot your phone into the fastboot mode.

Step 8- Open a command prompt from the platforms tools directory by pressing the shift key and right clicking on the empty space. To go to platform-tool is located in the android-sdk-windows directory.

Step 9- Now write the following command: fastboot flash recovery **TWRP FILENAME**.img

Step 10- After you are done with this, you need to enter the recovery mode by selecting RECOVERY from the fastboot menu.

Step 11- Select “flash the zip from SD card” option when you are in the TWRP recovery mode. To make the selection you have to press the power key and to navigate you use the volume buttons.

Step 12- Choose the zip from sd card and to do so, you need to press the power button again. Look for the SR3-SuperSU-v2.82-SR3-20170813133244.zip and select it. To start the installation, just confirm the process on the next screen.

Step 13- Once the installation is done, root your phone via the reboot system now option. But first you need to go to “+++++Go Back, only then will you be able to see the above option. If you are rooting your phone for the first time, it is going to take about 5 minutes. So, you need to be patient.

You are done, you just rooted your Google Pixel with Android 8.0 Oreo OPR3 Official Firmware.
