Honor 9 has the same design as Honor 8, which is good because the phone offers a sleek and high-end design but is priced as a mid-range Android. The display of the phone comes with a home button that is also the fingerprint reader. It has two navigation keys, one of the left side of the home button and other on the right. These keys are marked by two small dots and they can be configured in the software to meet your needs. The power button and the volume button are located at the right edge of the phone and the IR blaster that can be used for control household appliances is located at the top of the device.
At the bottom edge, you have single speaker grill, the charging port, and the 3.5mm headphone jack, the SIM or the MicroSD try is present at the left side of the phone.

The phone offers a 5.13-inch display with a screen resolution of 1,920 x 1080 and 428 pixels per inch. Due to the sub 500 nits, one might be concerned that it might not work well under sunlight, but thanks to the “increased readability under sunlight” feature, this problem has been resolved. Also, you can color temperature of the display to suit your needs. The only drawback is that screen is not protected by toughened glass, which means you have to be careful with it as falling might cause some serious damage.
Performance and Hardware
The phone has in-house Kirin 960 SoC. The same SoC was used in Huawei P10and Huawei Mate 9. Honor 9 has an octa-core CPU configuration with 4 Cortex-A73 Cores. The chip comes with the Mali-G71 MP8 GPU feature as well. Also, the CPU is clocked at 2.5 GHz and 4 Cortex A73 core at 1.8 GHz.
The primary model had 4 GB RAM and 64 GB internal storage, but later on, the company introduced a 6 GB RAM variant and a 128 GB internal mode. Although all most all models support Dual-SIM, yet one second SIM tray is also used as the MicroSD card. In case you use both the SIMs remember, you are limited to either 2G or 3G on the second SIM.

The speaker of the phone is pretty loud and clear and why shouldn’t it be, after all, it is designed by the Grammy Award winning sound engineer, Rainer Miller. The phone also offers several different sound 3D profiles to choose from while you are listening to music using your headphones. Select the type of headphones and then replicate the effect of listening to music in a concert or home theater by selecting the desired sound profile.
It’s non-removable 3,200 mAh battery has the ability to see you through the entire day. However, for different activities including playing 3D games, watching videos, listening to music, and searching the web, the battery can last for 5 hours of screen on. If you are playing heavy 3D games, the battery is going to get drained without 4 hours.
Honor 9 does support 2A fast charging, it means it can go to 4% to 100 %w within an hour. This is pretty impressive work, given when you are running short on time. We are not saying this is the best, but it still is pretty good.
The phone comes with Android 7.0 and Huawei’s Emotion UI 5.1. No longer do you have to face the problem of no app drawer, with this EMUI, Huawei lets you change the home screen so that you can include the app drawer. The phone also comes packed with amazing features including the motions control features such as raised to ear to answer the phone, flip to mute and much more. You still can enjoy the knuckle gesture that lets you take the screen shot by double tapping your knuckles on the screen. You can open an app by drawing a letter on the screen when it is off. Use can even enter the split-screen mode by drawing a line in the middle of the screen with your knuckle.

The phone is an outstanding camera, it comes with dual sensor setup with 12 MP RGB lens and 20 MP monochrome lens. By default, 12 MP pictures are generated, however, you can increase the resolution up to 20 MP. Besides the standard modes such as the Panorama and HDR, the camera has a lot more to offer. You can enjoy the full manual mode that lets you control the shutter speed, exposure, and iSO or the shallow depth-of-field mode. In the shallow depth-of-field mode, you can refocus pictures after they are taken.
Other modes include night shot – for better night time shots requiring a tripod – time-lapse, slow-mo, and watermark. Huawei has also included the light painting mode, which is also found on the P10 and Mate 9. With it, you can capture light trails created by things like moving cars, or the stars in the sky. The effect can be really cool but does require very steady hands, or a tripod mount, to get the shot to look the way you might want it.
In Pro mode, you can save images either as JPEG or RAW, also you have the ability to enable or disable the AF auxiliary light feature. The video recording is done in 4K and for 1080p videos, it includes EIS (Electronic Image Stabilization). The phone offers 8 MP front camera which is perfect for people who love taking selfies.
