Before you start to Root your Nexus 5X on your Android device make sure that you have update you device to Android 7.1.2 N2G47O Nougat factory image. In our last post we sorted that out for you by explaining how to update Nexus 5X to Android 7.1.2 N2G47O Nougat factory image.

Google has released the latest version of Android 7.1.2 N2G47O and you will be happy to know that you can upgrade your LG Nexus 5X to this version. However, there are very little changes, only some bugs are fixed and there is an improvement to the security system. That is all, no major changes are made in this update, yet it is good to update your phone for getting rid of any previous bugs present in the software. The bad news is that once you update your phone, your phone loses its rooted status. Regardless the fact that you just rooted your phone, the update will undo all you have done recently.

You don’t have to worry, in the course of this article, we will provide you a step by step guideline that will help you root your Nexus 5X running on Android 7.1.2 N2G47O in no time.

Prerequisites:

USB Drivers:
It is very important that you have downloaded and installed the latest LG G5 Nexus USB drivers.

Backup your phone:
There is always a slight chance that things might go wrong, therefore, it imperative that you make a backup of your data. So, that if at all something goes wrong, you can store your phone.

Unlock Bootloader:
Another critical thing to do, before you start the actual process is that you need to ensure that the bootloader is unlocked. All your data will be deleted during the rooting process.

Note: This tutorial is only for the Android 7.1.2 N2G47O installed on Nexus 5X. This might not work on other mobile phone or variants of Nexus 5X.

Instructions:

Step 1- Start with downloading the android SDK and setting it up with the USB drivers and platform-tools package.

Step 2- The next steps are to enable the USB Debugging mode on your phone.

Step 3- Depending on the OS you are using, you should download the fastboot and extract it in the android-sdk-window/platform-tools directory. If there is so such directory there, you should make one.

Step 4- SuperSu v2.79 is important and if you haven’t downloaded it yet, you need to do it now on your computer.

Step 5- Use a USB cable to connect and mount your phone memory on your PC.

Step 6- Copy the SuperSU-v2.79-201612051815.zip file into the SD card. It should be directly placed on the SD and not a folder.

Step 7- Switch your phone off and download the TWRP bullhead.img file. You need to save this one into your android-sdk-windows\platform-tools directory on your PC. In case the TWRP does not work, you can always use the other customer recovery CWM.

Step 8- Turn your phone back on in the fastboot mode. To do this, you need to press and hold the power key, volume down button.

Step 9- To opeen a command prompt, you first need to get to the android-sdk-windows\platform-tools directory. Once there, press the Shift key and right-click to open the command prompt.

Step 10- Once the Command prompt is open, you need to type the following code: fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.0.2-0-bullhead.img.

Step 11- Now enter recovery mode by selecting RECOVERY from the fastboot menu.

Step 12- In the Clockworkmod recovery, you need to navigate to the flash zip from SD card option and select it. You can select it by pressing the power key. You again need to press the power key button so that you can select the “choose zip from sdcard” option.

Step 13- Run the using SuperSU-v2.79-201612051815.zip your power key and confirm the installation process.

Step 14- Once the installation completes, you need to reboot your phone by selecting the reboot system now option from the recovery mode. To select this option, go to “+++++Go Back”. Your phone will take about 5 minutes to reboot.

You are done now, enjoy the latest android on your phone.
