Learn how to root your Google Pixel after you have updated to the latest Android 7.1.2 N2G47O. Even you have rooted your phone before, but after the update, the root status is gone. You would be required to root again. Lucky for you, below we have provided a step by step guideline to root both phones, ones that weren’t rooted before and also the ones that lost their rooted status due to the update.

How to Root Android 7.1.2 N2G47O on Google Pixel XL Nougat:

It is imperative that you read every step before you start implementing the entire process. Before we get started, you need to perform the following:

USB Drivers: Ensure that you System have the latest Google Pixel XL USB drivers.
Backup: Since you are going to root your system, so it is vital that you have made a backup of your data.
BootLoader: The bootloader of your Google Pixel XL should be unlocked.

Note: This particular root method is limited on for Android 7.1.2 N2G47O installed on Google Pixel. We are not sure whether this technique would be effective on other variants of the Pixel XL

Complete Instructions:

1- Go to Android Developers website, download and install Android SDK. After this set it up with the USB drivers package located in the SDK and the downloading platform-tools.

2- The next step is that you enable the USB debugging mode on your phone.

3- Download fastboot from the links below and extract it in android-sdk-windows/platform-tools. The version of fastboot depends upon your operating system.

4- If you haven’t already downloaded SuperSU v2.78, you download load as well on your PC.

5- Connect your phone to your PC using a USB Cable. Also, mount your phone’s USB memory onto your PC.

6- Copy the file SR5-SuperSU-v2.78-SR5-20161130091551.zip and paste it in your SD card. It is important to remember the file should be directly placed on the SD card and not in any folder or subfolder.

7- Switch off your Pixel XL.

8- Download another file called TWRP Pixel installer marlin 3.0.2-RC1. This will be a zip file, you need to place this zip file into the root directory of your smartphone. Again, switch off your phone.

9- Use a USB cable to connect your PC and your phone.

10- Now download TWPR (twrp-3.0.2.0-RC1-fastboot-marlin.img). Once you are one, you need to put this in the same directory where the extracted fastboot/ADB package is present.

11- Enter the fastboot/bootloader mode on Pixel by pressing and holding the Power Key+ Volume up + Volume Down key till you see something on the screen.

12- Navigate to the directory that has the fastboot and windows.

13- To open a command prompt, you need to press the Shift key, then right-click on an empty space and select open command prompt. For Linux and Mac, you would have to use a terminal to navigate to this particular directory.

14- Type the commands below and hit enter:
“fastboot boot twrp-3.0.2-0-RC1-fastboot-marlin.img”

15- This command will reboot your phone into the TWRP mode. To flash the “””” zip file, you need to use the install option. As this will not allow your TWRP to get reset to stock on the reboot.

16- Navigate to SR5-SuperSU-v2.78-SR5-20161130091551.zip via volume keys and to make a selection use the power button. You will be asked to confirm the installation. Please do that.

17- Once the process is completed, you need to go to “+++++Go Back” and restart your Google Pixel XL by selecting the reboot system now option from the recovery menu. It will take about 5 minutes to boot, so please be patient.
