Being a Hangouts user, we are already familiar with the fact that just last year Google divided the Hangouts suits for G Suite users into two different apps. One was Hangouts Meet, a video chatting platform that is different from the conventional Classic Hangouts Chats. The second was Hangouts Chat, a platform where teams could communicate. It seems that things are going to take a different turn this May; Hangouts Meet Replaces Classic Hangouts Video for all the G Suite users out there.

We are sure the news did not come as a surprise to many of you. Google was already working on this idea. For this reason, they were stripping away Classic Hangouts Video’s feature slowly and gradually. A platform that was once famous for its amazing and outstanding features was nothing more than just a boring video chatting app. Since Google firmly believes that Meet is going to provide better and more reliable experience in comparison to the Classic Hangout, who are we to disagree. Users will be able to enjoy Meets cleaner and focused experience after the 21st of May. In addition, any meeting made in Calendar is bound to become default to Meet for G Suite users.

Classic Hangouts will be available of non-G Suite users as the Meet is currently only for G Suite users. Also, only Google Chrome users will be able to enjoy the Meet Hangouts. Google does not provide support for Microsoft Edge, Safari and Firefox users for now. They are working on it, and you will be able to get it before the cut-off date.

If you are not a fan of the change, you will still be able to enjoy the Classic Hangouts Video chat. It will be available for live podcasts. Nonetheless, you should give Meet a chance, there is a high possibility that it will not disappoint you.
