Google has introduced a new mode called the Motion photo on the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL camera. The Google Pixel 2 Motion Photo mode is somewhat similar to Apple’s Live Photo and HTC’s Zoe before that. Every picture that you take using this mode is a combination of few seconds before and after the video footage. This is a better way of relieving some of the best moments of your life. As you are not looking at still pictures, but something that moves for a few seconds.

These kinds of features are really nice, but we doubt that they are worth buying a new cell which is very expensive. Luckily for those who want to enjoy the Google Pixel 2 Motion Photo mode, they would have 3 alternatives. Using these alternatives, they can enjoy the Google Pixel 2 Motion Photo mode on any Android device they are using. There are a couple of apps that let you enjoy this feature and below are the top 3 ones.

Samsung Motion Photo

This feature is available on new Galaxy Devices, so if you have Galaxy S8 or Galaxy Note 8, you are in for a treat. The new Samsung devices are coming up with a camera app that is very similar to the Google’s new Motion Photos. You can access this mode by opening the camera app, from there looking for the gear icon. It is usually present at the top-right corner. Once you find the icon, tap on it and then scroll down till you see the Motion Photo option. If the mode is disabled, enable it to enjoy live photos.

After you enable the option, every picture that you will take will automatically be a live one. Meaning, your phone will capture a few seconds of the video footage and then it will embed that into your picture file. Enjoy this mode, open your gallery app and look for the pictures that you took in this mode. To bring the photo to life, tap the orange button at the top-right corner.

Motion Stills

The other option that we are going to talk about it Google’s own app, the Motion Stills App. It does not create a still photo and then sticks it onto a video. On the contrary, it has more in common than any other app would have with the Motion Photo feature. Both the mode and the app tend to use a similar strategy. They are using some cool stabilization algorithms, that creates amazing looping GIFs that you can share anytime, anywhere.

You can easily install the app from Google Play Store anytime you want. The app is very easy to use, all you have to do is download it, launch it and then tap on the shutter button to take a picture. The button is present at the bottom of the screen. The app will then capture a 3-second clip, so it is important that you hold your phone still for about 3 seconds.

After you take the picture, scroll down to see what you did. To share or bring forward other set of controls tap on the image. You can do some editing, once you are happy with the end result. You can share it with your friends and family members by pressing the forward arrow. You can either share it in MP4 format or in GIF format.

Camera MX

Our last option is a replica of Apple’s Live Photo, which in turn is similar to Google Motion Photo. The app is very similar to what you are looking for and the best part is that you can use it on any Android you want. So, go ahead and install the Camera MX app on your mobile phone to enjoy Live Pictures.

The first thing is to download the app on your phone. Once you are done with that, then launch the app and look for the three circles. These circles are present at the top-left corner of the screen. Tap on them to bring forward a menu and from there select the Live Shot option. You will have to give permission to enable the feature. For a quick demo, you can tap on Try it. To unlock the full feature for free, you will have to log in using either your Facebook account or your Google account.

Once you enable the option, any picture that you take in this mode will have a few seconds video attached to it. To see the pictures, head to the Camera MX’s built-in gallery. At first, these photos will look like live pictures but long-press them to see the video attached to them.  To share them, tap on the share button and you can send the image either as an animated GIF or as a still photo.

What do you think? Which one is better? We personally are a fan of Motions Stills, as it is the closest thing to what Google Pixel is offering. However, we would love to hear what you have to say. Also, if you know of an app that would serve this purpose, please do let us know in the comment section below.
